Mother's Day

Lillipollen loves ya Mum...

There’s something delightfully ironic about Mother’s Day. One day a year we collectively panic-buy candles, chocolates and flowers in a frantic attempt to thank the women who literally kept us alive long enough to become functioning adults. And honestly? Fair enough.

But Mother’s Day didn’t actually begin as a commercial flower frenzy (although we’d argue flowers are still the superior choice). The modern version of the holiday traces back to the early 1900s in the United States, when activist Anna Jarvis campaigned for an official day honouring mothers and maternal figures. By 1914, Mother’s Day had become an official celebration — and almost immediately, people began sending flowers as symbols of love, gratitude and appreciation.

Flowers have always played a huge role in Mother’s Day celebrations because they say the things many of us struggle to put into words. A lush bouquet of fragrant blooms somehow translates to: “Thanks for raising me, supporting me, feeding me, forgiving me and pretending my questionable life choices were all part of the plan.”

At Lillipollen, Mother’s Day is one of our favourite times of year — partly because New Farm absolutely bursts into bloom, but mostly because we get to help people celebrate their mums, grandmothers, stepmums, chosen mums and all the incredible women who deserve a little extra love.

This year’s Mother’s Day collection is filled with the kind of flowers guaranteed to make Mum feel adored. Think romantic locally-grown roses in our Beloved arrangement, elegant white and green vase designs overflowing with lush seasonal blooms, fragrant hyacinths presented in chic glass vessels, and stunning phalaenopsis orchids that flower for weeks and make the ultimate “favourite child” move.

And if you really want to secure your position as Mum’s golden child? Add champagne, a Lumen + Luxe candle, or a box of decadent Dello Mano brownies. We support thoughtful gifting. We also support strategic gifting.

Whether your mum loves soft pastel tones, timeless white florals or something lush, wild and garden-inspired, flowers remain one of the most beautiful ways to celebrate Mother’s Day — thoughtful, joyful, fleeting and full of meaning. A little reminder that beauty matters, gestures matter, and yes… you probably should have organised your flowers before the last minute.

(We say this lovingly.)
