We’ve noticed a rather lovely little trend appearing in the Lillipollen inbox lately. The enquiry usually goes something like this:
“Hello! We’re getting married and would love a beautiful bridal bouquet and one buttonhole.”
That’s it. No fourteen bridesmaids. No floral arch the size of a small house. No arrangements for 27 guest tables, three bars, two bathrooms and a flower crown for the celebrant.
Just two people, a handful of their favourite humans—and some really beautiful flowers. And honestly? We’re completely here for it.
The rise of the beautifully small wedding
More Brisbane couples are choosing registry-office ceremonies, private elopements and intimate celebrations at their favourite restaurant or at one of the many unique venues in Brisbane that cater specifically to smaller weddings.
Sometimes it’s just the couple. Sometimes it’s close family and a few friends, followed by a fabulous lunch or dinner somewhere they love. The modern wedding checklist can be wonderfully brief:
Marry your favourite person.
Carry excellent flowers.
Go somewhere lovely for lunch.
No chair covers required.
For many couples, a smaller wedding feels more personal and relaxed. Instead of spending five minutes with each of their 150 guests, they can share the day properly with the people closest to them.
There’s less pressure, less choreography and considerably less chance of losing an entire weekend to a seating plan involving your divorced uncle, a couple of feuding cousins and somebody’s unexpected new boyfriend.
Big weddings—and big wedding budgets—aren’t for everyone
We still love a magnificent large wedding. Give us a dramatically suspended ceremony installation, an elegant reception for 150 and a dance floor full of badly behaved relatives any day.
But a traditional wedding can quickly become a very expensive production. With cost-of-living pressures already stretching household budgets, plenty of couples are questioning whether they really want to spend a small fortune on one enormous day.
For some, that money would be better put towards a home, a honeymoon, travel, renovations—or simply beginning married life without a terrifying credit-card statement arriving at the end of the month.
Choosing a small wedding isn’t necessarily about “doing it on the cheap.” It’s about deciding which parts of the day genuinely matter and spending thoughtfully on those.
Love, after all, is not measured by the length of the guest list.
Small doesn’t mean less special
An intimate wedding is not a consolation prize or a watered-down version of the real thing. It can be beautifully stylish, incredibly romantic and completely personal.
With fewer guests and fewer formalities, couples have more freedom to make the day feel unmistakably their own. That might mean exchanging vows at the Brisbane registry office, eloping somewhere private, gathering in a family garden or celebrating around one long table at a favourite restaurant.
There may be fewer moving parts, but the meaningful details become even more important—and of course the flowers are the very best way we can think of to bring that little bit of magic to the occasion.

When you’re not decorating an entire venue, your bridal bouquet becomes THE floral moment.

Flowers are seasonal, natural things. Varieties change, colours vary and occasionally the flower you have been dreaming about decides it simply will not be attending your wedding.
Allowing your florist a little creative freedom means we can choose the most beautiful flowers available at the market that week. The result feels fresher, more natural and more individual—and often far more special than rigidly following a recipe.
